Indian Bay is the most popular beach on St. Vincent. It has golden sand and a nice reef for snorkeling. During the week, the beach is mostly deserted. Several nice restaurants are located within walking distance. Tranquillity Hotel is located on the beach approximately five minutes by taxi from E.T. Joshua Airport and 10 minutes from the capital Kingstown. All rooms have balconies overlooking the sea and cooking facilities, including a stove and fridge. Some rooms are air conditioned; all have fans and tv. |
There is much to see and do in St. Vincent. During your stay you will probably want to take one or more excusrsions to the Grenadines. Many options are available and we will be glad to assist you. |
As of this writing, the cost of a taxi from the airport to Tranquillity Hotel is E.C. $30 (U.S. $11) for 1-4 persons, depending on the amount of luggage. This is subject to change, and occasionally whim. Check the price before you start out. And speaking of luggage: if you are traveling on LIAT to St. Vincent, be aware that the baggage limitation is now 1 checked bag weighing to more than 50 pounds (22 kilograms), plus a carry-on not exceeding 15 pounds (7 kilograms). |
The monetary unit in St. Vincent and the Grenadines is the E.C. (Eastern Carribean) dollar. The official rate of exchange is E.C. $2.67 to one U.S. dollar. Most merchants will exchange U.S. dollars for E.C. dollars at a discount, usually about $2.60 to one. There is an ATM machine at the airport. Most taxis do accept U.S. dollars so you shouldn't have to exchange funds before you arrive. |
One of the island's largest supermarkets is located directly across the street from the airport. Ask your driver to make a stop if you want to pick up some supplies. |
St. Vincent has some of the best drinking water in the Caribbean, straight from the tap. Bottled water is readily available, however. You might even want to consider a trip to the springs in the Congo Valley during your stay. |
As you pack for your trip, remember that no matter how much you are taking, it is too much. The single most common gripe we hear is "Why did I pack so many clothes?" Keep it simple. Bathing suit, sandals, shorts, tanks or t-shirts, sundress/sarong or long pants for occasional evening wear. A good pair of walking shoes is essential if you plan on hiking the volcano. |
